Major update: Ace Attorney Online v4

It was announced months ago; it has been beta-tested for more than two days; now it seems stable and ready for release : AAOv4 is here at last !

This new version of the game and editor contains the following new features :

More comfortable gameplay
  • The game now uses the original PW font. If you don't have it yet, you can download it from a link on the game page.
  • Thanks to Sound Manager 2, the new sound-playing system used in V4, sounds and musics can be pre-loaded when loading the game. A game without sounds lagging is so much better :-P
New editor features
  • Merging messages : two or more consecutive messages can be merged so that they will all be read in the same text box when playing. That enables to change the background and the sprite, to play a sound, etc. in the middle of a message : make the game more lively !
  • You can now choose the sound that will be used for text-typing for each message, between Male, Female and Typewriter. The Auto mode will play the typewriter sound if the text's global colour is green; the male one otherwise, just like in the games :-)
    You can also apply a factor to the text-typing speed : for example, 0.5 will make the typing twice as slow.
  • Auto-tasks are now saved so that you don't need to set them again each time you load the editor.
  • Custom profiles creation has been improved : you can now select a base character, and add custom sprites to him.
  • Profile names can now be changed. Moreover, profiles and evidence can now be deleted.
  • It is now possible to include several elements to check in any piece of evidence. Currently upported types are text, picture and mp3
  • A brand new variable system lets you easily set conditions for user interactivity
  • Cross-examinations can now contain several different contradictions.

Here are the main new features; several other little improvements have been made too. I hope you enjoy that new version :wink:


And one last detail : editor and game V4 should be able to load and play trials made under V3 without major problems. However, a few differences in display can appear, so I'd advise you to check your own trials and correct them if needed so that they're perfect in V4 :D

Basic things are the same, I'll just need to add new appendixes :wink:

But I probably won't do so soon, because I won't have time. As I said on the other topic, now that V4 is released, I have to go back to my studies more seriously :)

Wow, and I was expecting a March release :shock: . Way to go, Unas :D !

EDIT: Before I forget, how do the still pictures work? I mean, how does the editor know which still sprite to use when they're not talking?

I don't know how soon it will be, since I've decided to spend less time working on the editor from now on, but the still sprites function will be implemented in the future :wink:

You can already prepare your trials by indicating, when using custom sprites, the associated still sprite. This way, when the game will be updated, your trial will be ready at once to use it :)

As you may have noticed, since today tracks from Gyakuten Saiban Orchestra are available in the editor.

Thanks Meph, for taking the time to split the original files in individual themes :D

I love you. AWESOME! I've always wanted the orchestral numbers in the trial maker, and I even used them before in some of my mafia trails. It's good to see these available for use!
