Major update: Saving progress and series continuation

Post by Unas »

One more editor and game update, at last ! It has been a long time since the last one... The days of my youth, like the scent of fresh lemon, you see...

Anyway, this update brings several bug corrections, including that it should fix the editor to work with Google Chrome, and that custom special pictures should be managed better.

It also brings an important functionality : game save !
It had been requested long ago, and now here it is. The small "Save" button on top of the game screen reloads the page with a save link, that you can bookmark in order to come back here later.
One detail though : obviously, if the trial author edited it between the time when the save was made and when it's loaded, you may have unexpected results :-P

Also with it comes the ability to navigate between trials of a series. That is done through the "Quit trial" action.
The first parameter describes the action to do : end the game; jump to the beginning of the next part; jump to another part.

If you decide to jump to another part, you have two more fields to fill : the part's position in the series and the message ID where you want to go.

The last parameter enables you to transfer data to the target trial when jumping.
If you chose "Variables", the variables of the current trial will be copied to the other trial and available there.
The "Complete game state" is a mode designed to allow you to jump back and forth between all parts of a series. It will copy variables to the target trial, but it will also remember everything about the trial you're leaving so that it be restored identically if you come back.

I believe the most common use case will be jumping to the next part and transferring variables, which only requires selecting these two values in the two drop down menus, shouldn't be too complicated :-)

Also, this update changes several things about the inner workings of the game, so as usual if you notice any new bug, please report it. :-)
