Judging by your posts' time, he apparently ninja'd you over an hour prior to you making that post. ;P Looks like I'm not the only one with skimming problems. :awesome:

I'm investigating at the moment.

As for the 404, it's actually not the worst thing : here, it just meant that I disabled the website for a while to go checking on the backend server configuration. At least, when you see a 404, it means the server behind is still running :-P

Uh... any reason why AAO was down so long today? It was pretty unexpected... :|

The reason being that, as usual, it went down in the middle of the night for me. I noticed that and restarted it around 4am for me, mind you...

Oh, and if you experienced a downtime in the last 2 minutes or so, it's normal - I'm trying to fix some memory management settings, which required me to reboot the machine again...

Well, after a discussion with my host, we've doubled the RAM on AAO's server.
A radical and rather expensive solution, but it should hopefully avoid most of the problems we've been having recently (or at least give enough margin for the system to recover silently, rather than overload, crash and wait for me to reboot...), and make the site run faster.
Wait and see !

Well, if I say "rather expensive", it means that I'm paying it :-P
But I've considered it to be a very reasonable cost, if it allows AAO to run fine without me tweaking memory settings to the last byte. The previous setting didn't leave much margin at peak time, so if something went wrong the server ran out of memory and slowed down to the point of not answering even my requests.
I'll see how it goes tonight, but hopefully, that additional RAM should be able to absorb these problems before they go critical. And when that memory isn't required by applications, it's used as disk cache anyway to make the site much faster, so it's not useless anyway :-)
