About:
This case is set in the far-flung future of 2092, where the demand for lawyers has vastly decreased, due to advancements in lie-detecting technology. Because of this, it seems that false arrests are a thing of the past. However, budding investigator Jake Flint is brought in by an old friend to stand in court defending a man accused of murder. On the surface, the case seems simple, but the more Jake digs, the closer he gets to the dark truth lurking just out of reach...

This case was made for the Looking Back competition, in which 3 themes from previous case competitions had to be used. This case uses the themes:
Spoiler : :
Roulette Rules (Future Shock), I want to believe and Never Trust the Narrator.
Link to the thread is here.

So I started playing this when you first shared it at like, 3AM, so my memory of the start is kinda fuzzy (and this case is pretty trippy so far XD) but here are my thoughts:
I'll keep playing the rest later, but on the whole I'm interested in the plot! I do think you rush through things a bit though. Maybe add some more exposition and dialogue between characters so we get more of a feel for their personalities.
Spoiler : SoC :
  • From memory, there are some slight presentation things that needed work, like turning off penalty threats when you get the right answer during Mr Midnight's psyche locks, or when clicking back (This happened for the security guard, too).
  • I think there needs to be a little more exposition before you're thrown straight in, but I do really like how the dream sequence is a fend-for-yourself kinda thing. Feels more believable that way that you have no clue what to do haha
  • Ahh now I remember why I stopped. I can't clear the psyche lock because IDK where to go to get the handwriting analysis done. I'll use your walkthrough XD
  • Some lines go over the 3 line limit. Maybe revise the wording to make it a little more concise to fit in.
  • Vespers disappears from the menu at the bedroom but you can still talk to him. Maybe you need to add him back?
  • Both psyche locks show 3 but maybe only need to show 2, as there are only 2 acts needed to break them. The locks normally represent how many contradictions. Only time they really shatter multiple at once is if there's 5 but the person lying gives up pretty quickly.

    Trial:
Ahh you're using the Shih-na Franziska splice! I always liked that sprite but never saw it used.
Jake doubles up on saying "allow" here - "You... you aren't seriously going to allow a whip of all things to be allowed, are you Your Honor?"

Thanks for the feedback! Right now, I'm going back through and fixing up a bunch of the problems with the case, so hopefully I can get then all fixed. Also going to add some more dialogue for each character, so the player can get to know them. So far, the first two parts have been updated, the rest should be done soon.

Update: The case has been edited. Major changes to the 2nd investigation, moderate changes to the 1st investigation and minor changes to the rest of the parts. Hopefully this fixes the majority of the issues with the case.

I'm going to play through this one, but it'll take me some time, given how long the case is.

Do you want me to give my thoughts as I finish each part, or save it for a single post?

When you’ve finished the entire thing is fine.

This case was crazy, in a good way. Definately deserved the awards it got. :D
I must echo SuperAJ3's thoughts, mostly on the rush part. It feels like everything from the latter part of the second day begins running through plot twist after plot twist. In particular,
Spoiler : Massive Spoilers :
Jake being related to the victim and Halley being a cloned Dawn have only a sparse few bits of foreshadowing for them. Those twists definately came out of left field!
I will say that this case is excellent on the world building. It really felt like a futuristic world, although things stayed recognizably Japanifornia. It really got you thinking about the deeper implications of stuff like HICMED and the technologies that Dreamcorp works with. It really feels like a whole world that we only got a peek into.

I did have to rush it quite a bit, mainly cause I had so many ideas and too little time! Hopefully the next cases I make will be a bit better in that regard.

In particular,
Spoiler : Massive Spoilers :
Jake being related to the victim and Halley being a cloned Dawn have only a sparse few bits of foreshadowing for them. Those twists definately came out of left field!

Yeah, I wasn't sure how much foreshadowing to put in, as I didn't want to make it too obvious. I tried to foreshadow cloned Dawn with the information about Richman not having any pictures of his daughters (as if someone had looked at them, they would've put two and two together), and Jake's relation to Richman with the intro sequences, but I wasn't quite sure how else to hint at it.
Thanks for playing, and I'm glad you enjoyed the case! :larry:

My two cents on the twists:
Spoiler : :
I totally understand why some might get blindsided by the reveals, but for what it’s worth, I predicted both twists. I thought the foreshadowing was excellent, and it made solving the motive cross-exam really satisfying. :D
