How to get my xbox 360 controller to work on my PC?

Post by LanaSkyeFan »

So apparently I got to this step and after I finish downloading it, it says some of the required files are missing or damaged. I downloaded it again and it still pops up the message saying that. What the hell? How do I get it to work then?
How do you get it to work?

http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us ... or-windows

I'm following these instructions

http://support.xbox.com/en-US/games/xbo ... dd9dcf9105

Help, so desperate lol :tigre:

Is it with a USB port? Wireless ones don't work. Otherwise, I dunno how to help, I configured mine back when Skyrim first came out.

Wireless controllers DO work, but you need a special transceiver to plug into the computer to detect the controller.

Nope, it is a wired one  I plugged it in and the PC couldn't recognize it

Did you at least try a different port? Some ports don't recognize certain devices for some reason.

Also, you can try to use a third party software to detect the controller and use it (but you'll have to manually configure the input controls, and it's not as great as the native support):

I used something called MotionInJoy to connect my PS3 controller to my laptop.

Yes, the next port near it(this is the port I use for my mouse), doesn't make any difference

Is your PC a computer or a laptop? It could be that the ports you're using aren't powered ports, which might be that the 360 controller relies on.

Here's a troubleshooting link, it's not much, but it gives you other steps to solving/determining the problem exactly:

A computer, isn't the term PC clear enough lol? Stands for Personal Computer? Or the term PC can include laptop also? I never knew if that's the case (=3)

I should be more specific:

Is your PC a *desktop* computer, or just a laptop?

If it's a desktop computer, have you used your USB ports on the back of your tower?

Back of the actual, PHYSICAL tower (as in, the machine that cotains the power button and all that jazz. Check the back of the machine for more ports)
