Nice guide. After reading this, I'm thinking about changing the design of my first OCs, but even if I don't do that, I'll try to do a sprite with more than 3 bases (the only sprite of mine with more than 3 bases is child Klavier).
Some annotations:
• I wouldn't say that Apollo's head is a worse base than others. Take this sprite of mine as an example:
Image
Apollo is the only base I've used for the head, and in my opinion it isn't that obvious.
If you want to use Apollo's head, change at least the skin tone, the eyes and the shading.
• One hint for Attorney sprites: AAI sprites can be useful.

...Wow.

That's amazing. I can't tell in the slightest that you used Apollo.

Personally, I kind of disagree about the AAI sprites. I find the style clashes and it doesn't really work for me. But then, that's just me.

"Useful" could also mean that they can be used as reference... and I guess you could reshade them in AA style and just use the outlines.

Heh, it's not even finished yet. That's just the first step. I'm working on step 2 at the moment.

This is true. I'm just saying they don't really work for frankenspriting, which is what this section was about.

Updated with part 2.

Woah, that's pretty impressive. I can't even tell what most of the bases are. I can tell what some of them are, but that isn't the important thing. The important thing is that your base isn't the first thing that comes to mind.

I'm glad my guide helped you.

...Eddy Swop did come to mind when I wrote that part, if only because his name is Eddy Swop.

While Sundae does instantly recall Apollo, he's definitely one of the best uses of Apollo I've seen. Although he does kinda suffer from the second point on step 2.1, it's not a bad case of it.
