The Legend of Zelda

Post by SuperGanondorf »

Zelda is the most amazing thing to ever have been invented. Best game series ever, leaving every single other miles behind. And with good reason, too- its controls are excellent, its level design is unmatched in the world of gaming, the characters are memorable, the bosses test the limits of gamers' wits, the music is beautiful, the locations are gorgeous, and the stories are emotional and intriguing. Excluding Zelda II: The Adventure of Link and the CD-i abominations they decided to call "games", I don't think I can think of anything bad to say about any of the games, except by comparison to others in the series. Here are my favorite Zeldas, in order, by picture:

So what are your guys' favorite Zeldas?

This thread will be for discussion of anything and everything that is Zelda. Feel free to discuss whatever you like about the fabled series.

It's #13. I didn't much care for PH, honestly. Compared to all the others it's too short, too easy, and the central dungeon is done to death with all the return visits. It is still a great game, but it suffers by comparison.

True, but Spirit Tracks is... kinda worse. I mean, a linear train? At least I had freedom in the effing boat. XD

Freedom to... do what? Wander for hours in a vast expanse of nothing? There are islands and stuff, but there wasn't really anything to explore in the boat... at all... And I actually did enjoy the train in ST. It kept things flowing, and the limits imposed by lack of tracks did a good job of making sidequests actually relevant- instead of doing sidequests for some vague, possibly useless reward, you get more of the gameworld to explore. And possibly a new station. Not to mention, the puzzles were cleverer in ST, the central dungeon removed the most painful parts of the backtracking, and the music was just awesome. The only disadvantage I can see comparing ST to PH is the Spirit Flute. Seriously, Nintendo, NOBODY LIKES BLOWING INTO THE DS MIC. STOP. DOING. THAT.

Touché. But they're both still good Zelda games, I'm sure. :3

Of course. There's no such thing as a bad one. The CD-i ones just don't exist, as far as I'm concerned.

Favorite: ST. It has the best music in the series (YES IT REALLY DOES), the controls are improved from PH... The train made things harder since you had to plot your courses around enemies, instead of just sailing straight from A to B and blasting everything along the way. The characters are neat, and the storyline is :3 Many games have a disconnect between the 'point' and the gameplay, and ST for the most part didn't. The Tower of Spirits was a good version of The Temple of the Ocean King. AND I LOVED THE SPIRIT FLUTE IT'S MY FAVORITE ZELDA INSTRUMENT. PLAYING A VIRTUAL PAN PIPE IS SO MUCH COOLER THAN JUST PRESSING A FEW RANDOM BUTTONS IN ORDER WITHOUT ANY RHYTHM

Then WW (I'm like Yahtzee, I liked the sailing <3 Also the King of Hyrule is a Jerk), then TP (8 spiffy dungeons), then MM (time loop = awesome), then ALttP (lots of dungeons <3) then OoT (...err...), then MC (short but sweet, but 3D > 2D. I really liked the final boss, tho), then PH (I loved it when I finished it, but after ST... xD)

(Also I hope in Skyward Sword the instrument is a violin, and we have to use c/z/ctrl stick on the nunchuk to select the fret and use the wiimote to do the rhythm)

GOOD SIR! How DARE you not mention Ocarina of Time at the top of your list?! I shall penalize you with some strawberry cakes. :3

...no seriously, I can't place any Zelda game before others except Ocarina of Time which will always be first. And apparently we forgot about Minish Cap, Link's Awakening (creepiest final dungeon and boss EVER :l), Four Swords, Oracle of Ages/Seasons... XD

BP > That's an interesting, unusual order ^^
My top 3 is OoT, Twilight Princess, and MM (all very close) followed by Link's Awakening, Wind Waker and A Link To The Past.
I find Spirit Tracks much better than Phantom Hourglass, first of all it's more of a journey (water - sand - palm trees - caves gets boring after a while, especially since we've already been through this in WW), the gameplay innovations from PH are executed better, you no longer have to backtrack constantly, and the music is fantastic.

LOL this isn't about nostalgia. It's about... how do I say this...?

I loved those. Even today, they stand the test of time as just really good games. Like with Final Fantasy VII. And Sonic Adventure 2. And Mega Man X. And Chrono Trigger. And Pac-Man. And Super Mario Bros. 3. And... *goes on while Morgan glares at me*

Yeah, if this were only about nostalgia TP wouldn't place so highly on most lists.
OoT is not only the pioneer of 3D adventure games, but it also stands the test of time because of great pacing, creativity, gameplay and level design.

Yes I know OoT completely revolutionized LoZ and 3D gaming, but I'm not going to say "Well, I enjoyed WW, TP, and MM more than OoT, but since OoT was better for it's time I'm going to put it higher"

whatever, different strokes for different folks
