[T] Ace Attorney: Judgement Seekers ★★○○○○

Post by Blackrune »

Ace Attorney:
Judgement Seekers

A title with a deep hidden meaning. (or at least I want the players to think that.)

Plot:
After the trial of Vera Misham, Apollo begins to think about the meaning of being a lawyer. However, life continues, and since this is AA, crazy cases keep happening, and he gets dragged into a complex net of mysteries and conspiracies that have more to do with him than he might have imagined. Can he find the answers he searches for during those trials, or will he go down? One thing is certain, he doesn't fight alone!

(New) Characters:
Apollo will meet new friends and foes during this journey, and you might even play as someone else in some cases! You should already be familiar with Apollo, Trucy and Phoenix. So let's look at some of the other people you will meet.
Spoiler : Lira Vainheim :
A seemingly rich girl which sees herself as a private detective.
She is a little arrogant and tends to look down on people below her level.
While her reasoning ability is outstanding, she acquired most of her knowledge through books and sometimes tries to apply concepts of fiction to reality, which can cause her to get easily distracted by some minor detail which isn't important at all.
Likes: Tea
Dislikes: Someone not agreeing with her theories.
Spoiler : Vera Night :
A rookie defense attorney who hasn't lost one case till now, which puts her at 5 wins and 0 losses. She became an attorney because she loves riddles and intellectual debates. Pretty skilled in making the opponents argument look completely riduclous as long as there is no decisive proof for it. Seeing how there is now a jurist system, that's a rather efficient method to get her "not guilty". Seeing how this ability is most efficient when the case is still all vague, she actually managed to win one case during the very first cross-examination.
She also belives in fate, and is a fortune-teller herself.
She loves to randomly draw a tarot card to look into the future, even though that's not how you're supposed to use them.
Likes: Riddles, math problems
Dislikes: Incompetency, Abuse of the weak
Spoiler : v.K. :
As a chief prosecutor in Germany, von Karma has gained even more authority than she previously possessed.
She claims to have found an answer as to what a perfect prosecutor is, and her win ratio is over 99%.
Likes: Herself, her whip
Dislikes: Fools
Spoiler : JP??? :
Not much is known about this secret organisation, the following is the information that has been colected by a certain person.

Raven - One of the members of JP. For unknown reasons, this person always commits crimes in a way that makes them next to impossible to solve them. You won't ask "Who did it?". You'll ask: "How is this crime even possible?"

Vampire - Seems to actually think of herself as a vampire. Her crimes tend to be committed in a unnecessary brutal way. You could say that Raven tries to attack the mind, and this person tries to attack the heart.

I managed to get some names/codenames of other members, but the information about them still needs to be confirmed.
-Kuter Exxer
-James Richter
-Tiefenheim
That's it for the characters of the play, now for the actual trials.

Cases:
-Note that the plot introductions do of course contain minor spoilers. Nothing big, but if you want to tackle the cases without knowing a single thing beforehand, you might want to skip reading those.
1.) The Virtual Turnabout
Spoiler : Plot intro :
Phoenix seems to have prepared some kind of virtual deduction game. And he challenges Apollo to solve it! Will he be able to find the truth behind the case, which does involve elements that wouldn't be possible in a normal case?

Spoiler : 2nd part walkthrough :
-Talk with the guest

2nd testimony:
-present Safe on third statement

Foyer:
-Exhaust all talk options

Front entrance:

James' room

-All talk options

Mr.Doe's room
-Examine the books to the left side
-Examine the gun on the right side
-Examine the chair in front of the blood
-Examine the book on the small desk next to the chair
-Examine the bloody footprints between the gun and the small desk
-> Move back to the foyer
-> Present the diary
-> Present the strange bookshelf
-> Move back to Mr.Doe's room
-> Examine the bookshelf again
The right order is:
1.The Devil's kitchen
2.The Chronicles of Maria von Enizburg
3.Elizabeth the nun
4.Curse of the doomed monocle
(All the books have something to do with certain people
kitchen refers to a cook, got it? The butler wears a monocle.
The two others have even names of the persons in the cover, come on it wasn't
that hard to figure out, was it?^^)
->Move back to the foyer, something should be happening if you did all of the above

Testimony:
-press 3rd statement
-present the secret safe on the revealed statement

-present the butler

Done! Wasn't that hard, was it? Shame on you if you needed this.
Spoiler : 3rd part walkthrough :
1st Testimony:
-Just press all statements to proceed

2nd Testimony:
-Press the 6th Statement. Ask about the time. Then present James Richter's profile to the added statement. (Careful: If you asked about the sandals you will have to press the 6th Statement again to switch the added statement to the right one.)

-Present Apollo's notes on the number of shoes
Time for James Richter's testimony:
-Press the 2nd statement and have a statement added. Present the mysterious document on the added statement.

-Present the bookshelf when asked about the real meaning of the diary.

-Hear the verdict...NOT. Of course you have to object!
-Next choice. You called the witness to confirm an alibi.

*Break-Time*

The cook's testimony is next:
-Present the gun on the third statement.
But he won't give up so easily.
-A final statement will be added to the testimony. Present the vase shards on that one.

Now it's time for Mrs.Doe:
1st testimony:
-Don't press, unless you want to read funny conversations with a small penalty.
-The 5th statement is an exception. You'll have to press that one.
-She'll change her statement. Press the new statement.
-When given the choice, ask about the documents.
-Ask how she obtained them.
-Ask "When?"
Finally you get your new statement.
-Present the documents on the final statement.
-Look at the date

2nd testimony:
Massive testimony, easy solution.
-Press for more info or just ignore everything and present the door on the 5th statement (about her entering the room)
-Next choice: The only thing that could make sense to lie about is the number of keys.
Enjoy some crazy theorizing.
Final piece of evidence:
-It's....the gun!! If you have enough health left you may fail once for some really crazy objecting.
That's it. Enjoy the ver- someone ruining it all. Sorry, you'll have to wait for the next part to get the solution. ^^"
Spoiler : 4th part walkthrough :
Hey, part 3 is harder in my opinion! Well, there are some mean ones in this one as well.

-1st Testimony: Last statement -> Present vase shards to remind her of her sin!!!
-2nd Testimony: Press 3rd statement, ask about the vase -> Press 4th statement, location of the shards. No penalties, easy.

-Raise objection or see what happens, makes no difference.
-Why could it have happened the way the witness described it? -> Present the shards again.
-Choose "To hide her fingerprints" Though in reality, the other option is true as well, but it doesn't help your case.
-The thing one naturally wouldn't want to bear one's finerprints? Hmmmm, THE GUN, PERHAPS?

ok this is where the nightmare begins. Weakhearted people quit now!

3rd Testimony: This is a minefield, proceed with caution. Press the 2nd statement and demand an answer. It will seem like you'll get owned but she adds something instead. The added statement is at the very end of her testimony. Present the crumpled paper. This one's mean since it was never said that it's the combination, but I think it was still obvious enough.

*Godot showndown*
-choose "There's a very easy way" , unless you're one of those who fail on purpose.
-How do we check who's lying? How 'bout testing it on the safe? (the defendant's, not the hidden one!)
-choose "I don't agree", there's no penalty for despairing, though
-Unlimited Penalty#1: Present Mr. Doe's profile. Note: There's a sad ending if you screw up here.

*A wild Phoenix has appeared*
-The autopsy report contradicts with your theory, but no matter what you choose Phoenix will explain it anyway.
-choose "He didn't have a key". Sometimes you have to be reasonable...
-choose "Mr. Doe unlocked it" , this one should be easy. One choice can't really be and the other is completely ridculous...
-choose "It's impossible" Stay on the ground, man! Impossible things stay impossible!
-choose "It was not locked" I love how the player does always have to pick the negative choice...
-Present: the chair! It was in the room, it wasn't paid attention to till now. In fact,
it was the only thing never mentioned again after discovery, just how clear can a hint be?
-choose: "he didn't get out" I like the liquid option, though. Maybe the culprit was a snowman? Window can't be, if
the window was open that would have been mentioned somewhere, wouldn't ya agree?
Unlimited Penalty#2: The final line of defense, the second examination of the door. Present Walter's profile.
Second check has to make sense, how can it make sense if someone else was the criminal?
Note: Failing on this one will also lead to the sad ending.
Do you really want Apollo to go emo that much?

Final Testimony: For a final testimony, it's not that hard. Press third statement -> Present bloody footprints
on the added statement.
*Oh no Phoenix won't go down THAT easily*
-Present the sandals! Phoenix will screw a bit with you.
-Present....the vase shards! Oh, I really love how some vase shards are used three times and are the final piece of evidence!

Watch how the criminal gets owned with logic and just gives up without manic laughter. What did you expect? Not all the villains go down dramatically!

*Epilogue*
-Watch the credits
-Hate me for the ending
2.) Turnabout Detective Girl
Spoiler : Plot intro :
After an unexpected relevation at the end of his previous case, Apollo decides to return to his normal life. However, his peace doesn't last long, because some days later he find a mysterious invitation letter sent by a certain "detective girl". Of course he couldn't resist his curiosity, and finds himself involved in a case again! Will the new jurist system work in his favor or against him? As if that wasn't enough, the murderer in this case does not seem to be your average opponent.
Status: Finished
PART 1
PART 2

Awards:
Best crime in a trial or investigation
The Quercus Alba award
The Dahlia Hawthorne award
Best use of custom sprites

Spoiler : Part 1 Walkthrough :
-Talk, talk, talk until you're at the crime scene.
-Examine the drawers on the left side
-on the bottom edge of the screen, there's a little blood. Don't miss that.
-examine what's lying on the desk... it's a small but important note
-Examine the right hand of the victim's shape... it's formed like a gun ohmygosh a cyborg!
-Those points on the wall are bullet holes.... don't miss them
-Examine the paper pieces on the floor... near the drawers.
-Exhaust all of Ema's talking options

-Next is the little test:
-Choose whatever you like for the first two questions. It doesn't really matter.
-You can choose whatever you want on the third question as well, but it does kinda influence what will happen after that.

Route A(if you did choose Murder):

1st CE:
-Present dying message on last statement. Easy, isn't it?

2nd CE:
-Present the door on the statement that mentions that he barricaded the door.

Route B(if you did choose Suicide):

1st CE:
-Present dying message on second statement. Strange, isn't it? It can be used to argue both ways...

2nd CE:
-Present the gun data on the fourth statement. ...Really mysterious, isn't it?

Then the paths merge back together.

-You'll find yourself in front of a house, examine the door (not the pointless gate)
-go back to the crime scene and present the witness testimony to Ema
-go to the detention center and talk to that aggressive guy.
-Just try to talk to him and present the witness testimony again
-Present the threatening letter and the bloody message to him, then you'll have all 4 talking options
-exhaust all options and you'll get back to the mansion, then you'll just have to do some more talking

-and that's it, it doesn't matter what you discuss with Rune
Spoiler : Part 2 Walktrough :
Greetings, traveller.
So I see you're having troubles to perceive the truth. That's why you're here.
What a pity, but worry not! Help is near, given by me! The fabulous, wise, trustworthy overseer of this world: Rune!

1st Testimony (Ema):
-Press the second statement to reveal the glorious autopsy report.
-Press the third statement. You have a problem with the dying message! Shove that autopsy report into the prosecution's face to proceed!

-A question will arise. Of course you have a problem! There's always a problem!

-Next up is a CCE. No m,atter what you do, it's possible to proceed. I'll let you figure out the right response yourself.

2nd testimony (Mik Hikimori's 1st)
-Curses! A malicious otaku has left his lair to threaten your case! And his testimony seems solid!
First of all, press the third statement. After that, press the new third statement. Ask him why he looked out.
He says the gunshot was the reason. But wait! Right in his very next statement, he mentions that he heard a gunshot AFTER that! That'd make 2 gunshots, make him aware of his critical failure by presenting his own testimony to the 4th statement. (or the "translated" version of it. Doing it on the non-translated one will lead to slightly different dialogue. xD)

3rd testimony (Mik Hikimory's 2nd)
-How stubborn. This one seems contradiction free. Present the autopsy report on the 4th statement and see for yourself.

And with that, the first court phase of this case is ove- OMGWTFBBQ!?

4th testimony (Naota Feykneme's 1st)
A troublesome shady foe has appeared. This one's really tricky.
-Press the first statement. Ask him about the pictures he draws.
-Press the 4th statement. Ask him whether he followed the defendant into the house.
-Press the 7th (final) statement. Ask him about this testimony.
-Press the 3rd statement. Ask whether the defendant was carrying something else at that time. You have a problem now! Present the suicide note there!!!

5th testimony (Naota's 2nd)
-Present the barricaded door on the very first statement. Like a boss.

-He's tough and has another excuse. Present the suicide note to deny it!

6th testimony (Naota's 3rd)
-Oh come on! Okay, present the barricaded door on the 7th statement to logic stomp him yet again.
-Geez, another excuse. Now present the threatening letter or the dying message on the new statement. (about him leaving while the defendant was busy in the room.)

-Your cavalry charge has been denied yet again. Could there be a problem with this new piece of evidence? of course there is! Choose yes, there's always a problem!

-Ignore all that complicated stuff about the events. Just say you have a problem with no event in particular and present the victim's profile.

-Even that wasn't enough!? Fine, those two events seem to contradict each other. But, just as always, both are co- Wait... why would both be correct? Don't just assume things like that! The recording is obviously flawless so the only thing that could have been manipulated is the meeting!

-What the-!? Even that manly logic wasn't enough to finally take him down? Fine, the murderer tried to hide the time of the murder. "B-But the autopsy rep-" No. Real men don't give a damn about some silly autopsy report! The barricaded door will explain it all!

-There we go... waitwha-*RANDOM CLIFFHANGER*
3.)Turnabout Executioner
Spoiler : Plot intro :
A man suspected of being a serial killer has been arrested and put in detention. However, will prosecutor Klavier Gavin be able to prove that man guilty of a crime he committed 3 months ago? Not only is the crime scene one of the most bizarre and confusing one Gavin ever had to face, the mysterious and undefeated defense attorney Vera Night does everything in her might to steal the victory.
4.)A Village full of Turnabouts
Spoiler : Plot intro :
Vera Night, an attorney shrouded in mystery, is paying a certain village a visit. Obviously strange inexplicable incidents start occuring. Will she be able to reach both the truth and her own personal objective despite an incompetent detective, a ruthless prosecutor, an overly biased judge, and a murderer that seems to possess supernatural abilities?
5.)Turnabout Duel
Spoiler : Plot intro :
Following a recommendation, Apollo and co. decide to visit the yearly Hero of Heroes Grand Prix. Just like always when Apollo leaves the house, a murder happens. Two persons are found in one of the changing rooms. One is dead, one is unconcious. Seeing how this is the AA world, the police doesn't suspect in the slightest that this could possibly be a setup and arrest the one who was unconcious. As if that wasn't enough, the prosecutor turns out to be someone Apollo really didn't expect. Why is HE able to prosecute a case? Even more mysterious is that the judge doesn't seem to have a problem with that. Something seems to be going terribly wrong in the courtroom.
6.)Turnabout Raven
Spoiler : Plot intro :
German Chief Prosecutor Franziska von Karma is invited to the International Criminal Law Congress.
Coincidentally, it's held near Phoenix' place, but she has no time to visit him. Or so she thought.
Due to a incident which shakes the whole nation, the congress has to be cancelled. Von Karma's assistance is requested to help with said incident. Surprisingly, she refuses and decides to visit Phoenix instead. She has some questions about Apollo's last case, since a person related to her was involved. However, all she finds at the agency is a strange letter with a riddle written on it. Where are Apollo and Phoenix? Can she win the game the cuplrit plays with her and rescue them?

Welcome to the community. :) I only played through the prologue, and it seemed very long. I think it gave away too much with the dialogues. Prologues are meant to be confusing.

Using names in the intro is a no no. You also seem to be using the wrong kind of apostrophes. As for the status displays, you are allowed to pretend that it's just normal status displays. But overall, I like this.

@Meph: The prologue doesn't really give much away, since its relevance is of a slightly different nature. But I see what you mean about it being a bit too long, maybe I should cut it down a bit.

@henke37: I'm glad to hear that you like this. Did you play the whole part? (can't tell from your comment) And I really used some wrong apostrophes in the first half of that part, you have a sharp eye. :o I guess I'll have to go over it again to fix those.

Finally found the time to finish the 2nd part. Time for the actual investigation.
It's fun to write about people getting owned.
Here it is:

Since it's possible to get stuck/get 'game over' in this part,
I'll also give you a short walkthrough.
Spoiler : Shame on you if you just use this without thinking :
-Talk with the guest

1st testimony:
-present Notes on shoes on the last statement
2nd testimony:
-present Safe on third statement

Foyer:
-Exhaust all talk options

Front entrance:
-All talk options

James' room
-All talk options again

2nd floor hallway:
-All talk options

Mr.Doe's room
-Examine the books to the left side
-Examine the gun on the right side
-Examine the chair in front of the blood
-Examine the book on the small desk next to the chair
-Examine the bloody footprints between the gun and the small desk
-> Move back to the foyer
-> Present the diary
-> Present the strange bookshelf
-> Move back to Mr.Doe's room
-> Examine the bookshelf again
The right order is:
1.The Devil's kitchen
2.The Chronicles of Maria von Enizburg

4.Curse of the doomed monocle
(All the books have something to do with certain people
kitchen refers to a cook, got it? The butler wears a monocle.

that hard to figure out, was it?^^)
->Move back to the foyer, something should be happening if you did all of the above

Testimony:
-press 3rd statement
-present the secret safe on the revealed statement

-present the butler

Done! Wasn't that hard, was it? Shame on you if you needed this.
Have fun and comment. (Even if you didn't have fun. I can handle criticism.)

What is that music that plays whenever Apollo FIRST enters that room with the organ (not the song Phoenix plays when idle)? I don't recognize that music from any of the Ace Attorney games.

Anyway, this looks extremely promising! I'm amazed you actually went to the trouble to DRAW Maria's sprites, as opposed to using other characters' sprites like you did for everyone else.

And I thought that "assistance" from Phoenix was going to be another piece of evidence or something. Instead it's my favorite magician in the whole wide world! ^_^

I really, really look forward to the trial portion!

It looks interesting. I'm trying the game now. :D

Edit: OMG. Did you just use one of Umineko's soundtracks? (or something from another game--no, it has to be Umineko!!!!!!!!!!) YOUR GAME IS NOW OVER 9000!!!!!!! JUST FOR USING UMINEKO SOUNDTRACKS! (or soundtracks from another game... but I'm 99% it is from Umineko!!!!!!!!!!!)

Edit 2: I hope this isn't illegal, but that was pretty cool. I got lost at the end though... but I can see what Apollo was trying at. There were a few grammar mistakes but aside from that, it was pretty cool.

Very interesting. You had a couple of typos, but other than that, it was flawless as far as I could see. Nice work and all that stuff. I am looking forward to the final part.

It is kinda obvious that the maid is kinda strange.
Spoiler : Note :
I wonder why the butler didn't recognize his own note. Maybe you should fix that?

Some parts were a bit hard to follow and was unfitting, but the base storyline is AWESOME!
Nice job!
Due to real life issues, my trial and forum activity will be slow.
Like, insanely slow.
So I apologize for that, and will get back at you ASAP, thanks!

Wow, thanks for the positive feedback.^^

@Mimi Mika: Yes, it's from umineko. This whole game is sort of a combination of something I thought out a while ago and me wondering how Phoenix would react to umineko. xD

@MartialArtsMaster: The bgm is from 'Umineko no Naku koro ni' , a sound novel.
Actually, I wanted to make custom sprites for all the characters but I'm kinda lazy and I had a perfect excuse. (phoenix was responsible for the character design but not very creative xD)
Still, I wanted my case to be something unique, so I drew the maid at least.

@henke37:
Spoiler : note :
Then again, I wanted the player to figure at least that much. It's sometimes like that even in the real AA games, with people not recognising things they should.
And a lot of the reactions of some people in this part are already small hints.
Sorry again for the few grammar mistakes. I guess I have to hurry finishing part 3 now, before people forget what happened in the previous parts.
