SJB, you should try playing a round of Mafia where no external communication is allowed. Those are so much fun. No one is trustworthy. Role claims never happen, unless it's a cop. Basically, it's a lot less thinking and a lot more guessing.

Like Trucy said, this is a place for discussing and suggesting basic mafia strategy. This isn't a place for anything else. Further spam will be deleted on this topic.

First post is updated again with a couple more that came to mind, and something GvK brought up.

Even the best players can have an off day, or just do something really friggin stupid.
I regret NOTHING!Image

Yeah, that MAMA defense was a stroke of stupid genius when I realized that I never did it before... but unfortunately, I had forgotten that I was not the first to use it. XD

That wasn't pointed at you specifically actually, but I guess it fits. :D

To expand on an idea in the first post, I think that the word of a dead player premoretem does NOT constitute real evidence. Ever. Except if it was an investigation, and even then, don't use it as a crutch. I plan to make my next round either with no cops, or just no roles period (except a godfather...but only with the names list ability).

No roles is no fun!
He robbed from the rich, and he gave to the poor
Stood up to the man, and gave him what for
Our love for him now, ain't hard to explain

LIES

The fun in such a round comes from, oh, I don't know, THE CRITICAL THINKING THAT'S SUPPOSED TO BE KEY TO THE ENTIRE MAFIA GAMEPLAY. You of all people should realise that a lot of players need a crash course in common sense, Force, after what just happened to you this round. :P

There's been talk on and off of a "Mafia Lite" for months now - something simple that helps people practice thinking critically.

Adapting C9/F11 game designs for our own purposes might be something to try out.

I'd like to play a few C9 games in the AAO/CR vein of design both as training for myself and for others. It's something to think about, anyway. :)

I personally only like no roles in IRL mafia. It gets boring online, especially if we have a ton of people in it.

At the very least, I think we should discourage investigative roles for a while. I do think that I'd like to do a C9 or no-role round sooner or later.

EDIT: Or maybe a Dethy round.

I've heard of Dethy rounds. One sane, insane, paranoid, and naive cop, and one mafia scum. That sounds like fun.

Also, I was thinking about theme games, like a Texas Shootout round I heard about where the roles are Mafia scum and One shot vigilantes.

But it doesn't mean anything in the least, that ball has the same chance of hitting a square every time.
This. The human brain is wired to find patterns where there are none. Unless you consciously realize it, you're going to be tricked by this kind of thing and other similar tricks every time.
