Re: Development News: Last news did say "someday", you know.

Well, thank you for being patient, because I'm not so proud of not updating for almost 2 years xD Also, I'm not the only one to thank, now : it's thanks to Enthalpy, ThePaSch and all other contributors that we can keep bringing updates - because as far as I'm concerned, I'm no longer developing AAO ...

Re: Test Suite

Small suggestion : you should put all those cases on the AAO staging environment, and public.

That way, it'll be easy to test with the latest pre-release version that gets automatically deployed there. ;-)

Re: Bug Report: Can't Load v6 Game Saves when Playtesting

Can you give links to these specific trials ? To be honest, there is no reason for it to differ between V5 and V6 trials, because the conversion layer applies long before the player is started. (The V5 trial is dynamically converted to V6 before the player loads it). I suspect that there is somethin...

Re: Development News: Last news did say "someday", you know.

Thanks for the feedback. A 2-second pause ? This is definitely not intended. There was a refactoring of the display engine that improves synchronisation to reduce flickering, and this can introduce some waiting (as it waits for more events to be ready before triggering them all at once). But 2 secon...

Development News: Last news did say "someday", you know...

Development news Last news did say "someday", you know... Hi everyone, As crazy as it may sound, an update to AAO has just been released. Yes, more than one year after we announced a more open development cycle; and almost two years after the last release. I know, I know, we definitely ha...

Re: Les nouvelles

Re: [S] Site shutdowns

Sorry for the late answer. Thanks for proposing your help. Normally, money is not so much of an issue : I try to be conservative with it, but on paper the server where I moved on June 30th is more than powerful enough for running the site, and still cheap enough for me to afford without thinking twi...

Re: Development News: Someday on AAO is Here!

The move is complete. As usual, it took a bit longer than planned, but it seems to have gone smoothly. Please let me know if you notice any new issue on the new server ! EDIT : 9 hours later, it seems everything is stable, and in addition performance is a lot better than the previous server. That's ...

Re: Development News: Someday on AAO is Here!

I took the liberty of updating the announcement with one of my own.

In light of all issues we've been having with AAO's current server, and in a last ditch effort to get a stable platform in time for the July Game Jam, I'll be moving AAO to a new server over the weekend.

Re: [S] Site shutdowns

The reason is PHP - in which all the server-side code of AAO is written. Apache has a rather deeply integrated PHP module which has no real equivalent in ngnix. It's possible to execute PHP on nginx (through a system called php-fpm), but in my experience it always involved a significant overhead in ...

Re: [S] Site shutdowns

Hi there, Sorry for taking care of that a bit late... Anyway, as promised, since another shutdown occurred in June, I've decided to set up an additional server to serve all static files of AAO (this includes trial pictures, sounds and music from the default AAO asset-base). I've just finalised the s...

Thanks. If we experience new site shutdowns by then, I'll set up an additional server.

Re: [S] Site shutdowns

Enth summed it up quite well. Basically, the server tends to go in a state called "kernel panic" and not respond to anything. When this happens, unfortunately, the crash is so severe that there is no log written, so there is no proper way to investigate the cause after forcing a reboot. On...
