What is it ?

Post by Paulo »

Hello ! :D

Today, I was searching for something in the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney 's rom and I found something strange in the sound data.

You can listen it (I've extracted 3 but there are a lot !). You can use it and if you want more, just ask me !

Note : Those songs are the detention center theme, the Dick Gumshoe theme and also the cornered theme.

I think they are pretty much tracks from game, but with few instruments muted.

Hey Paulo, I don't think there's anything to be concerned about here.

A) The DS hardware doesn't do reverb like that, nor does it sound like it's supposed to be a MIDI file. I know that's your're doing too since I rip the games to condense into an instrument pack for music production and there has been nothing like that ;P

B) Some of the notes you're hearing that "sound strange" are just notes you don't hear in the actual tracks too well due to how the instrumentation is overlayed on a sequence.

C) These are all sequences, they don't loop at all so it further means that your built-in DLS Windows player is making these very interesting instrumental sound the way they are.

Until we see the original sound data sequences+DLS posted here, I'm convinced that it's just your soundcard making MIDI files sound pretty unique.

@Sligneris, you're close, but the instruments that you hear in-game...Don't exist at all in these versions.

...Did you use a certain Trans tool to peek into the sound data : ?

It's possible that it is my soundcard because I am on a notebook. I will test with my PC when I'll be at home (friday).

I haven't changed anything in these songs, they are like I have found it when I ripped the game.
It was a *.sseq file that I converted in ah *.midi file and then in *.mp3 to put it online.

Yep, it's your soundcard's MIDI DLS doing that ;)

To prove it, here's what the ripped MIDI sounds like on my netbook:

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/8066810/BGM001.mp3

Same notes, exact MIDI's, played differently by my netbook's soundcard :)

Yours is generally going to sound better because (I assume) your computer models are pretty new compared to mine (my netbook is 4 years old and with a pretty generic soundcard, so it relies on the default Windows GS Syntfont DLS thing)

This forum is only for help using services on AAO. This is more appropriate in GC. :)

Moved to General Chat.

Actually Meph, since this is a sound-related asset, can you move it to Your Art forums?
