Guide: Editing AAI sprites to look natural on court benches

Post by Godot Mango »

(This uses GIMP)

There have been a few cases in which people would like to use AAI sprites on the benches.
But they look a little...

Like that.
But this is something for you to do to make someone look mroe natural on the bench.
Like Young Franziska, or Ema, even.
Image
To make them look like that, it's actually simple as 1, 2, 3.

One:
Open gimp, and open a sprite.
Simple.

TWO:
Open the "Layers, channels, Paths..." window and link all the frames together.
How do you do this? Simple.

See the purple area?
Click the little buttons until it looks like this.

THREE:
Choose the "Move tool" and click the screen,
Then move the image...

Code: Select all

10 - 20 pixels upwards
60 pixels to the left (Defense) or right (prosecution)
Then save the image.
(Don't worry about unlinking them)
Very simple.

(Now everyone will hopefully stop asking me to do this for them XD)

Thank you very much, Mango!
This may come handy in the future~

If I ever get GIMP, that is.

I think they would need to be shrunk down a bit too if they're going to look like the other characters at the bench.

MacActually, if you want then to look smaller, just raise them only 5-10 pixels instead of 20.
They'll look smaller.

ha3well, it's free :awesome:
So why not?

Yeah.
But, for now, I have no plans on making a trial.
Although, a very great idea has been nagging on my mind for a while...

Well, it would make them look shorter, but they'd still be more zoomed in. Compare AAI Edgeworth with Edgeworth at the bench. He looks like he's farther away.

Wow, I would have just moved every single layer to that area one by one and just hope that the sprites are symmetrical with each other, thanks.

I'm just teasing.

But there's a few things I can suggest. I'd go with a "push the sprite all the way to the edge" approach over the "60 pxl to the left/right" approach. That way you can always adjust the positioning to make it more natural.

Also make use of guide lines to get consistent positioning.

Fixed.

Also, how do you move them to the exact position same each time? As in: getting each separate sprite to be in the same place as the others.
