Ace Attorney Online

Many may know of the Ace Attorney series' increasingly prominent issue regarding localization. Back when the first game came out, it was easy and basically expected to pretend this Japanese series took place in Los Angeles, California, but as time went on, things just kept getting more...Japanese. Sure, you can buy spirit mediums in L.A., but what about ramen stands, references to yokai, rakugo, or entire prequel spinoffs so deep in feudal Japanese culture that they haven't even TRIED bringing the games over yet? Yeah, it's...it's a thing. It's a very hard job for the localization team to find excuses past "Japanese immigrant village" for all this cultural whiplash and still pretending the thing takes place in the United States.

So, wanna make their job even harder?

Your task for this competition is to create an Ace Attorney-style sprite taking inspiration from specifically Japanese culture, society, history, or mythology, to create a sprite that would be nearly IMPOSSIBLE to justify localizing it into a Los Angeles setting.



Rules:
-You may make either an original sprite or an edit of existing AA characters for this competition.
-You may make as many poses as you want and enter them as a single entry. Multiple poses are not required, however.
-All sprites entered should be made specifically for this competition.
-You may enter as many different sprites as you wish, though each will be entered independently of one another.
-You may sprite two characters in one entry if needed (See Trucy+Mr. Hat, Lamiroir+Machi).
-Do NOT enter any offensive content. This includes entries making fun of Japanese society or physiology, outwardly racist entries or depictions, entries based on cultural tragedy, NSFW or NSFW-implicated entries, etc. Be respectful.
-The entry period will last from April 30 to June 25th, unless otherwise altered. Voting will then take two weeks.
-You may update your entries as needed during the time of the entry period.
-The winner of this competition will, in turn, host the next competition.

I return to sprite comps after years and I already have to burn everything down wow

No entries? It's such a cool theme... Shame on you us! I already have done some research and started working on my sprite. You should be able to see it in due course.

I've finished exams so I've got time to sprite something! Now I just need to work out how to represent my idea

Here's my entry. It was originally meant to have more poses, but I've lost a part of my work due to a system crash . Also, an attempt from my side to work with a limited color palette. I used little Kay and Pearls' sprites as components.
I may add some corrections to it later, if I have time (her hair need to be a bit redone.)

(because you know, in California, all cops wear this at promotion ceremonies )

So voting technically ends in 2 days? Normally the OP will be updated, each entry assigned a number, and some official vote commencement message will be posted.
