Help! Smooth scrolling (Linear Hard) doesn't work

Post by mariaale »

I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong, but this is the first time I'm creating a case and no matter what I do I can't get the linear transition to show up during playtest.
I've put [#p70], unchecked in "hide previously shown characters" and I've tried to create some test runs in other languages (since the first time I was doing it was in spanish), still nothing. I'm using Firefox 121.0, but I've also tried with Google Chrome 120.
I've searched everywhere in the forums and it looks like I'm the only one with this problem, am I doing something that is causing the transition not to appear?

a pause and the hide/show characters button shouldn't affect smooth scrolling. all you need for smooth scrolling is to define a wide background (e.g. the courtroom) with a change in the screen position between two frames. so, if you have frame 1 defining the background as the courtroom, and screen position set to "left-aligned", then frame 2 you define the background and set it to "right-aligned", the screen will display your chosen form of smooth scrolling when the player proceeds from frame 1 to frame 2. does that make sense? my guess is that you either have an incorrectly defined background, or you haven't set the screen position properly, but i can't say for sure without seeing the trial in question.

i made a tutorial a while back on how to set up courtroom presets to make the above process easier. by defining all characters on a wide background in the first frame, you can avoid having to mess with the screen position setting at all, as AAO is able to implicitly 'remember' the positions of the characters as long as you don't change the background or hide the characters on future frames. that lets you change characters talking between frames and set the smooth scrolling between them without having to redefine the background each time.

Omg thank you so much! I was wrecking my brain for this and it was that simple, I've been able to fix it pretty quickly with your tutorial, so thanks again!
