[Feedback][E] Music Fading

Post by Technoid357 »

Is there a possibility of putting in a feature that fades out the music, instead of halting it completely?
The sudden stop of the music kinda... kills the atmosphere.
I understand the method of putting the same songs again and again just with different volumes, but that seems like a big hassle.
If it's too much of a data hog, then I understand if it's not implemented.
:sawhit:
Maybe make it another command?

Funnily enough, I was wondering about this myself... I don't think it's a current feature, but will this be added in V6?

If Unas and Meph like the idea, and it's conveniently not a huge data file which-a-ma-call-it, it might be included.

The engine is already capable of changing the volume, and I think Unas has said that he'd like to do this (but don't quote me on that).

Yeah, implementing a fade out mechanism is rather simple with the sound library I use in AAO.

The question is, do we want such a fade out to happen every time the music stops ?
If not, which condition should I use to trigger it ?
Should I add a checkbox "fade out previous track" on each frame when you change the track ? Seems quite heavy.
My current choice would be to add a new "Fade out and Stop" option next to the current "Stop" option.

But if you have any opinion regarding that, feel free to tell me.

Sounds like a good and straight-forward solution to me. :-)

Having a "Stop" and a "Fade out" options seems like the best to me.

I can't remember: do the AA games sometimes fade out the music slowly, or is it always about a second in duration?

I haven't checked it, but I assume that it varies. Perhaps implementing different fading times is the one thing that will turn this from a trivial issue to a more complicated one. But if it is to be implemented, I can see two possible options:
  • The fading time is specified in the music section for the individual tracks
  • The fading time is specified in the concrete situation in the storyboard.
If different fading times are implemented, I personally prefer the first option, as it is a lot simpler and easier for us to use and for Unas to implement. ;-)

Well I was just wondering if we needed two options like "short fade" or "long fade" instead of just "fade". :)

Maybe a fade duration counter, somewhat like the frame duration.
--------
While on the topic of fading, maybe a scene fade command?
